Rudolf Black (1958)

Rudolf Philipp Wilhelm Schwarz (born March 31, 1904 in Prague , † February 25, 1963 in Neuffen ) was a German writer , advertising specialist and parapsychologist . In contrast to the parapsychological and economic publications that appeared under his name, he wrote most of his fiction works under the pseudonym Ralph Black .

Life

Rudolf Schwarz was born in Prague as one of five siblings. His parents were partners in a large cabinet maker. He was a Christian of the Protestant denomination. Shortly after his birth, the family moved to Esslingen am Neckar in the Kingdom of Württemberg . There he attended elementary school from 1910 to 1913 and the secondary school from 1913 to 1922 . After one year of work in a workshop, he graduated from the Technical University in Stuttgart , where he passed the diploma examination for mechanical engineering in 1926 . From 1926 to 1933 he worked as a newspaper and magazine editor and in industry as a works manager, quotation and advertising engineer, including four years at Maschinenfabrik Augsburg-Nürnberg AG. From 1933 he worked as a consultant advertising engineer at numerous machine factories. After attending economics lectures and seminars at the Technical University of Stuttgart and the Eberhard-Karls-Universität Tübingen from 1940–1942 , he completed his studies in 1942 with a doctorate in political science .

The advertising agency Dr. In the years after the Second World War, Schwarz in Erkenbrechtsweiler developed into one of the leading advertising companies in Germany with branch offices in several large cities, before he had to give it up due to illness. Rudolf Schwarz was married and had four children; Little is known about his private life. He died at the age of 58 at his place of residence in Neuffen and was buried three days later in the local cemetery.

Parapsychologist

In the period after the Second World War, Rudolf Schwarz was one of the most famous afterlife researchers in the German-speaking world. In doing so, he relied largely on the so-called afterlife protocols , which came from his collaboration with the medium PH Landmann . According to him, behind this pseudonym stood a retired Protestant pastor who "had excellent contact with the hereafter".

The result of this activity were, in addition to the book publications listed, numerous articles in magazines with predominantly occult topics. He wanted his books to be understood as advice for life in this world. In addition to his own publications, he also translated English-language literature, such as In a Million Ways by the British clairvoyant David U. Bedbrook, with whom he was friends. He was president of the Society for Metaphysical Research eV in Hanover, in whose monthly he published regularly.

writer

Without the public associating this with his person, he also wrote a number of novels under the pseudonym Ralph Black , an Anglicized variant of his name. The spectrum ranged from classic detective novels to adventure novels in booklet form to future literature . His first work Jagd nach JM , published in 1947, developed into a great public success and was re-published two years later by another publisher. However, the publication of his novels broke off at the beginning of the 1950s, several works remained unpublished despite announcements and blurbs that had already appeared in advertisements and inserts . In the following years he published more and more writings on topics related to research on the afterlife.

Professionally, he also wrote economic papers on the subject of customer acquisition and sales promotion, some of which were published by the same publishing group that published his psychological writings.

writing style

In his parapsychological publications he professed a scientific and fact-based approach and mentioned his technical qualification as a graduate engineer several times as a guarantee for his sober assessment of the phenomena dealt with.

Most of his novels, which are located in the English culture area, are characterized by a noticeable Anglophilia and carefully researched detailed knowledge, without having visited Great Britain personally. He preferred the authorial narrative situation and limited himself to just a few subplots. The contents of the novel are largely chronological and told in the present tense. Although published shortly after World War II, there is no evidence of this in his works. Rather, the majority describes a situation in the 1920s or 1930s that completely ignores current political conflicts. In addition, there is a love of detail, which is certainly job-related, when describing technical, in particular electrical, equipment.

Trivia

On March 13, 1963, d. H. Less than three weeks after Rudolf Schwarz's death, PH Landmann (the medium with which he had worked at the time) reported that he had made contact with the deceased. Only a few days later, on March 22, 1963, he too died at the age of 92. A detailed report on this appeared under the title "I found what I expected - communications from a cross-over researcher ".
