Viktor Alexejewitsch Korotejew

Viktor Alexejewitsch Korotejew ( Russian Виктор Алексеевич Коротеев ; born April 25, 1937 in Chapayevsk ) is a Russian geologist , volcanologist and university professor .

Life

Korotejew graduated from Tomsk University in 1959. He then entered the Institute of Mining and Geology of the Urals Department of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR (AN-SSSR) as a laboratory assistant , where he then rose to the position of Scientific Secretary. In 1968 he successfully defended his candidate dissertation . In 1970 he became director of the Ilmen Nature Reserve , where the up Ilmengebirge with about 180 different minerals , including ilmenite , apatite , garnet and topaz located. In 1983 he successfully defended his doctoral thesis .

In 1986 Koroteev became director of the Zavaritsky Institute of Geology and Geochemistry of the Ural Department of the AN-SSSR. In 1987 he became a corresponding member of the AN-SSSR. In 1988 he became head of the Department of Mineralogy , Petrography and Geochemistry at the Ural Academy of Mining and Geology in Sverdlovsk . Under his direction, a detailed geological map of the Ilmen Mountains was created, which contributed to the theoretical investigation of the processes of tectonics and metallogenesis and led to the discovery of important copper - zinc deposits in the Urals. He established paleo volcanology as a new field of research. He is the author of 223 scientific publications and 7 monographs.

In 1992 Korotejew became a real member of the now Russian Academy of Sciences (RAN) . In 1993 he became the first vice-chairman of the Presidium of the Urals Department of the RAN and in 1995 its chairman.
