Demidow Prize
The Demidow Prize ( Russian Демидовская премия ) is a prize awarded annually to its members from 1832 to 1865 and from 1993 by the Russian Academy of Sciences for special scientific achievements. It is considered one of the most prestigious science awards in Russia. It is named after the founder Pawel Nikolajewitsch Demidow . The award was initially only awarded until 1865 (in accordance with the provisions of Demidov's will) and was re-established in 1993 on the initiative of Gennady Mesjaz (Vice President of the Russian Academy of Sciences) and the governor of Sverdlovsk Oblast , Eduard Rossel .
The award was originally endowed with 5000 rubles (for the full price) and has been endowed with 10,000 dollars since 1993. It is awarded in Yekaterinburg (capital of Sverdlovsk Oblast), and the winners give a lecture at the Urals State University there .
