Oleg Alexejewitsch Bogatikow

Oleg Alexejewitsch Bogatikow ( Russian Олег Алексеевич Богатиков ; born December 15, 1934 in Moscow ) is a Russian geologist .

Life

Bogatikov's parents fell victim to Stalin's Great Terror . The mother was imprisoned (until 1947) while the father was shot in 1937 (rehabilitated in 1956). Bogatikov attended secondary school in Gavrilov Posad ( Ivanovo Oblast ) and then graduated from the Faculty of Prospecting of the Moscow Prospecting Institute (MGRI) in 1957.

After completing his studies, Bogatikow became an aspirant , laboratory assistant and then research assistant at the Institute for Geology of Ore Deposits , Petrography, Mineralogy and Geochemistry (IGEM) in Moscow. In 1965 he became a member of the CPSU . In the following years he worked in the Congo . After returning to the USSR and studying at the Institute for International Relations, he studied petroglyphs and anorthosites at the IGEM , to which he made important contributions. With his dissertation on anorthosites in the USSR, he received his doctorate in geological-mineralogical sciences in 1975 . He took part in five sessions of the International Geological Congress, reported on its results and joined the National Committee of Geologists of the USSR.

Bogatikow studied igneous processes and the ocean floor . He initiated the publication of a fundamental work on igneous rock in seven volumes (1983-1987), of which he was the main editor and for which he made many contributions. His areas of work were the history of magmatism and the early stages of the development of the earth's crust and the mountains of the moon .

Bogatikov was 1986-1991 Scientific Deputy Chief Secretary of the Presidium of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR (AN-SSSR). In 1987 he became a Corresponding Member of the AN-SSSR and in 1991 a full member of the now Russian Academy of Sciences (RAN), of which he is Deputy Vice-President.
