Individual evidence

  1. literally translated: "I fear the man who [only] learns from a book" (a saying that is mostly attributed to Thomas Aquinas , and according to some sources also to Augustine of Hippo ). In this context, the saying is interpreted in such a way that it takes a stand against one-sided education (all knowledge only from a single book). With earlier authors, the saying is interpreted in a different context but also in a positive sense (in the sense of " I fear the Bible scholar "). But that is certainly not what is meant here.
