Nikolai Leontjewitsch Dobrezow

Nikolai Leontjewitsch Dobrezow ( Russian: Николай Леонтьевич Добрецов ; born January 15, 1936 in Leningrad ) is a Russian geologist and university professor .

Life

Dobrezov's parents were the physicist Leonti Nikolajewitsch Dobrezow and the geologist Julija Nikolajewna Kell. The grandfather was the geodesist Nikolai Georgievich Kell . Dobrezov studied at the Leningrad Mining Institute with a degree in 1957. He then took part in the Altai geological expedition as head of the Irtyshsk group .

1960 Dobrezov became a research assistant at the Institute of Geology and Geophysics of the Siberian Department (SO) of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR (AN-SSSR) in Novosibirsk . In 1963 he received his doctorate as a candidate in the geological and mineralogical sciences with his thesis on jadeite species in the ultra-basic rock of Western Sayan and other regions . In 1969 he became a lecturer at the Department of Mineralogy and Petrography at the Novosibirsk University (NGU). In 1971 he was with his dissertation on Glaukophan - and eclogite -Glaukophan complexes in the Soviet Union and its genesis to the doctor of geological-mineralogical sciences doctorate. He then became laboratory director of the Institute for Tectonics and Geophysics of the Far East Department of the AN-SSSR in Khabarovsk . In 1972 he returned to Novosibirsk as head of the laboratory at the Institute of Geology and Geophysics. In 1974 he was appointed professor at the chair for mineralogy and petrography at the NGU.

1980 Dobrezow became director of the Institute of Geology of the Buryat branch of the SO-AN-SSSR in Ulan-Ude . In 1984 he became a Corresponding Member and in 1987 a Real Member of the AN-SSSR. 1987–1989 he was chairman of the presidium of the Buryat Science Center of SO-AN-SSSR in Ulan-Ude.

In 1988 Dobrezov returned to Novosibirsk and became director of the Institute of Geology and Geophysics of the SO-AN-SSSR. In 1989 he became vice president of SO-AN-SSSR. In 1990 the Institute of Geology and Geophysics was merged with the Institute of Mineralogy of the SO-AN-SSSR, and Dobrezov was the general director of the combined institute. From 1991 to 1997 and from 2005 onwards, Dobrezow heads the chair for mineralogy and petrography at the NGU.

Dobrezow examined the metamorphic facies with regard to the metamorphosis of the deposits and the changes in the environment and the climate and developed corresponding models. He placed the geodynamics of the earth's interior at the center of his work . He founded a new research school in the SO-AN-SSSR (since 1991 SO of the Russian Academy of Sciences (RAN)), which studies and models the processes in the earth's core , in the earth's mantle and in the earth's crust . These include, in particular, convections in the earth's mantle with effects on plate tectonics , continental drift , volcanism , earthquakes, as well as mineral and ore formation with consequences for deposits of natural resources , especially rare earths , diamonds and hydrocarbons .
