The Réserve écologique James-Little ( French for Ecological Protected Area James-Little ) is a 211 hectare protected area in the Canadian province of Québec .
These protected areas are mostly inaccessible to the public, with the exception of four protected areas, namely the Serpentine-de-Coleraine , the Forêt-la-Blanche , the Tourbières-de-Lanoraie and the Île-Brion .
The James-Little Sanctuary is in the Sheenboro parish in the Outaouais administrative region , 3 miles southeast of Rapides-des-Joachims . It serves to protect an area typical of Lac Pythonga , which is characterized by sugar maple and yellow birch . Other tree species such as willow and American beech are also common . The Rivière Saint-Cyr in particular plays an important role, for example for the Canadian zander . Also protected are turtles such as the map turtle or the ornamental turtle and species of snakes such as the common garter snake , Anaxyrus americanus , but also frog ( Lithobates clamitans ), salamander and toad species.
The sanctuary was named after James Little (1803-1883), who, himself a timber merchant, campaigned early on for clear protection guidelines and areas as well as for maintaining the regenerative capacity of the forests. He was one of the first to recognize the finiteness of the supposedly inexhaustible forests of America.
