Yevgeny Petrovich Chelyshev
Yevgeny Petrovich Tschelyschew ( Russian Евгений Петрович Челышев ; * October 27, 1921 in Moscow ; † July 13, 2020 there ) was a Russian indologist and university professor .
Life
Tschelyschew came from a merchant family. He attended middle school with graduation in 1939 and then began studying at the Moscow Chemical Engineering Institute . Even in the first year he became the Red Army moved in and the flight school of the Military District Oryol sent. In the German-Soviet War he served as a radio operator in a high-speed bomber regiment . In October 1944 he was sent to Monino to the military academy for commanders and navigators , which he did not accept because of his poor eyesight.
Tschelyschew studied in Moscow at the Institute of Foreign Languages of the Red Army in the Department of Oriental Studies . After graduating with honors in 1949, he was an adjunct there . In 1952 he defended his candidate dissertation on the socio-political terminology of literary Hindi based on materials from the Hindi press . He then became head of the Chair of Hindi and worked there until the institute was closed in 1956.
Tschelyschew was released as a lieutenant colonel in the reserve and worked for more than 30 years in the Institute of Oriental Studies of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR , where he headed the Department of Literature of the East. At the same time he headed the Chair of Indian Languages at the Moscow State Institute for International Relations at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (1956–1975). In 1965 he defended his doctoral thesis on tradition and innovation in modern Hindi poetry . In 1966 he was appointed professor .
In 1981 Chelyshev was elected Corresponding Member of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR (since 1991 Russian Academy of Sciences (RAN)) and in 1987 he was elected a Real Member. For a long time he was a member of the RAN Presidium.
Tschelyschew was an admirer of Swami Vivekananda , whose writings and teachings he researched and disseminated for decades. He was a vice-chairman of the Committee for Comprehensive Study of the Ramakrishna Vivekananda Movement .
Tschelyschew was chief scientist of the Russian Likhachev Research Institute for Cultural and Natural Heritage in Moscow, which was founded in 1992 by the government of the Russian Federation in accordance with the UNESCO Convention for the Preservation of World Cultural Heritage . He was a member of the Scientific Council of the United Scientific Center for problems of universal thinking of the International Roerich -Zentrums . He was a member of the Writers' Union of the USSR and Russia for more than 30 years . He was also involved in the preparation of the celebration of Alexander Pushkin's 200th birthday .
