The BMW Z4 G29 is the third and current generation of the Z4 roadster from BMW (internal series designation: G29 ).
history
As early as 2012, Toyota and BMW agreed on the joint development of a sports car that is to be sold from the end of 2018. As a roadster , the vehicle will be sold as the BMW Z4 , while Toyota will offer a coupé as the GR Supra on the same technical basis. At the IAA 2017, BMW presented the Concept Z4 as a concept vehicle . The Z4 as a series vehicle was presented during the Monterey Car Week on August 23, 2018 in Pebble Beach in front of “The Lodge at Pebble Beach” on the “ Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance Reviewing Stand”. In October 2018 the formal trade fair premiere took place at the Mondial Paris Motor Show . The designer is the Australian Calvin Luk, who u. a. designed the second generation of the BMW X1 .
Production has been at Magna Steyr since November 2, 2018 . The M40i was available from March 9, 2019 to the end of June 2019 in Frozen Orange as a special “First Edition” model.
technology
The vehicle with a fabric top, which can be closed within ten seconds, is as below. a. the BMW G30 and BMW G20 on the CLAR - platform . For weight reasons, the bonnet and doors are made of aluminum and the tailgate is made of plastic. Struts and a front axle connection via four instead of three points ensure rigidity. Compared to its predecessor, a 30 percent improvement in rigidity is mentioned.
The chassis has a 5-link rear axle and an electronic differential . Both axles are made of lightweight aluminum and steel; the entire weight is distributed on them 50:50. The disc brakes are ventilated at the front and rear. The M40i is equipped with a sports suspension with electronically controlled dampers, a sports brake system with four-piston floating calipers on the front brake discs and a sports differential in the rear axle drive.
The headlights use LED technology , the rear lights use organic light-emitting diodes (OLED for short). The reversing and rear fog lights are located as a small additional light in the lower center of the rear apron, on the M40i above the diffuser . The vehicle electronics allow the vehicle to be opened or closed and the engine to be started with the smartphone via NFC (near field communication) .
The G29 is available with a head-up display on request .
Technical specifications
Two two-liter four-cylinder engines (20i, 30i) and a maximum of 250 kW (340 hp) in- line six -cylinder engine (M40i) with turbocharging are available. The four-cylinder engines are BMW B48 engines. The six-cylinder engine is the B58 engine that was revised in October 2018 . For some markets, the M40i is offered without a petrol particulate filter and has a maximum output of 285 kW (387 hp) with the same torque specification.
