history

With the Concept X2 , at the Paris Motor Show in October 2016 , BMW presented a first preview of an SUV coupé version based on the second generation of the BMW X1, which has been built since 2015 .

The manufacturer published the first pictures of the series version on October 25, 2017. The X2 had its trade fair premiere at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit in January 2018 , and the market launch took place on March 3, 2018. Production takes place in Regensburg.

The BMW X2 expands the X series and is, among the BMW X4 and BMW X6, the manufacturer's smallest SUV with an even number in the model name. Competitors to the X2 include the Mercedes-Benz GLA and the Range Rover Evoque .

Like the BMW X1 or the Mini Countryman , the new X2 is based on the BMW UKL2 platform and, unlike many other BMW models, is therefore offered with front-wheel drive .

The design of the compact SUV, referred to by BMW as the SUV Coupé, is based on the 8 cm higher and 9 cm longer X1. As with the BMW 2000 CS and the BMW 3.0 CSI , the BMW logo can be seen once on each side.

Technical specifications

A two-liter gasoline engine with 141 kW (192 hp) and front-wheel drive as well as two two-liter diesel engines with 140 kW (190 hp) or 170 kW (231 hp) and all-wheel drive were available for the X2 at the market launch . A 1.5-liter petrol engine with 103 kW (140 PS) and a two-liter diesel engine with 110 kW (150 PS) followed shortly afterwards.

Registration numbers

In 2017, 244 BMW X2s - 186 with diesel drive and 189 with all-wheel drive - were registered in the Federal Republic of Germany, although the vehicle was not yet officially available. In 2018, of the total of 9,378 newly registered X2s, 4,741 were models with a diesel engine and 4,447 were models with all-wheel drive. In 2019, out of 13,174 X2s, 5,187 had a diesel engine and 5,048 all-wheel drive.
