Mercedes-Benz X 156 is the internal code for the Mercedes-Benz GLA . The compact SUV from Daimler AG was presented at the IAA 2013; the market launch was on March 15, 2014. The X 156 is the fourth model based on the modular front-wheel drive architecture (MFA). At the time of its launch had GLA the best c w value (0.29) of all compact SUV. The main competitors are the Audi Q3 and the BMW X1 .
The successor model H 247 was presented on December 11, 2019.
Technical specifications
Seven models were available at the time of market launch, three with a gasoline engine and four with a diesel engine . The GLA 180 CDI has been available as an entry-level diesel model since September 2014 and the GLA 180 with a gasoline engine as the cheapest model in the range since February 2015 .
The two smaller gasoline engines in the GLA 180 and GLA 200 and the diesel in the GLA 180 CDI are only available with front-wheel drive ; The GLA 45 AMG , which has been available since July 2014, has all-wheel drive as standard , which Mercedes-Benz calls 4MATIC . It is also available for the stronger models at an additional cost. There are ten motor / drive combinations. While the smaller types GLA 180 , GLA 200 , GLA 180 CDI and GLA 200 CDI have a six-speed manual gearbox with an automatic start-stop system as standard, the GLA 250 and GLA 220 CDI and all 4MATIC models are only available with the seven-speed dual clutch gearbox 7G-DCT available.
The GLA is the first Mercedes-Benz vehicle to have the revised 4MATIC permanent all - wheel drive system with variable torque distribution between the front and rear axles.
Mercedes-Benz presented the facelifted variant of the GLA at the North American International Auto Show 2017 in Detroit; it has been on sale since spring 2017.
