The Mercedes-Benz W 147 , called Type 400 V , was the prototype of a luxury-class car that Daimler-Benz AG built in 1938. The technical director Hans Gustav Röhr , who died in August 1937, still designed it, but did not see the prototypes being built.

Its V8 engine with overhead valves was designed with a long stroke and had a displacement of 4003 cc. It developed 105 hp (77 kW) at 3500 rpm. Via a four-speed gearbox with a gearshift lever in the middle of the car, it drove the rear wheels, which were suspended from a coil-sprung pendulum axle. The front axle also had double coil springs and hung on double wishbones. The wheelbase was 3300 mm. 6 test cars were built from the 130 km / h vehicle.

Similar vehicles were the type 400 VM and the type 400 VMS , which differed from the type 400 V only in the chassis, engine and transmission.
