Econic is the name of a truck series from Mercedes-Benz ( Mercedes-Benz trucks division ) that belongs to the Daimler group. Freightliner , another Daimler group, has been selling the EconicSD in North America since 2018 .
The series is characterized by a particularly low-lying driver's cab and is preferably used in municipal areas as well as for special bodies, e.g. for airport vehicles. The vehicles are available from 18 to 26 tons total weight. The chassis comes from the Mercedes-Benz O530 ( Mercedes-Benz Citaro ). The driver's cab was developed for Mercedes by Sachsenring AG in Zwickau.

At the 2008 IAA Commercial Vehicles in Hanover, Mercedes-Benz presented a concept study of the Econic NGT Hybrid , which combines natural gas drive and hybrid drive . According to the manufacturer's calculations, up to 60 percent of fuel costs can be saved compared to diesel.
There was a choice of three diesel and one natural gas engine:
model | Displacement | power | Torque |
Available exhaust standards |
---|---|---|---|---|
Six-cylinder in-line Mercedes-Benz OM 926 engine | ||||
1824 | 7.2 l | 175 kW (238 hp) at 2200 rpm | 810 Nm at 1200 rpm | |
