The Mercedes-Benz O 405 G is a city lines - articulated by Daimler-Benz in high-floor structure , which was built from 1984 to 2001 as standard. This vehicle belongs to the second generation of VÖV standard buses and is the direct successor of the O 305 G . The solo bus variant was available under the designation O 405 .
This vehicle shaped the cityscape of many German cities in the 1990s, but also found numerous customers in other European countries. Due to their robust construction and high reliability, the vehicles are also very popular on the used market.
The direct successor was the low-floor O 405 GN , which was manufactured from 1992, but production of the high-floor O 405 G continued in parallel and did not end until autumn 2001.
variants
In addition to the normal version as a city bus, Mercedes-Benz also produced variants. So was z. B. an upscale equipment available for intercity traffic; however, the vehicles equipped with it have the normal designation O 405 G.
While the doors were only partially glazed in the first few years, these were replaced by fully glazed ones in later years of construction. There was a choice between inside and outside swing doors; a single-leaf outside swing door was also available at the front. In conjunction with the optional stem of the O407 , one-piece or split windshields were also available.
The chassis was also offered as a right-hand drive , but only with moderate success. A few buses were built in Australia by the Volgren company for use in Singapore .
Trolleybuses based on the O 405 G
A smaller part of the O 405 G series were produced as trolleybuses , including duo buses and duo buses with track guidance . This resulted in a total of three further sub-series:
- O 405 G HCE (113 copies)
- O 405 GTZ (100 copies)
- O 405 GTD (47 copies)
