Mercedes-Benz Vision CLS is a concept vehicle from Mercedes-Benz that was presented in 2003 and later went into series production as the Mercedes-Benz CLS .

presentation

Mercedes-Benz Vision CLS was presented at the International Motor Show in Frankfurt am Main in autumn 2003. The aim was to build a spacious so-called coupé with four doors. According to Mercedes-Benz, it is “a coupé and sedan at the same time”.

features

The vehicle was powered by a diesel engine with six cylinders and an output of 195 kilowatts (265 horsepower) with rear-wheel drive and a seven-speed automatic transmission .

Special features were the concept of a coupé with four doors and the associated body and the large amount of space available for coupés. The appearance of the front with active cornering lights and cornering lights was new . The beltline is high and emphasized by a distinctive shoulder line ; this gives you “the feeling of sitting securely in the vehicle”. The roof line is distinctive - it arches over the body and "dips gently into the rear area".

The interior is designed with bright and friendly colors; the design elements were increasingly made of natural leather and wood . Leather is used, among other things, for the surface of the dashboard and the cladding of the A-pillar , the car seats and the interior trim for car doors and doors. Oak wood is used for the wooden elements . The roof is largely made of glass, lets a lot of light into the interior and creates a "pleasant feeling of space".

The distance between the front and rear seats is 83 centimeters and is therefore on par with a sedan. The headroom in the rear is 92 centimeters; the trunk volume is 470 liters.

The vehicle includes front airbags, window and sidebags as well as belt tensioners and two-stage belt force limiters at all seats. Active cornering lights, cornering lights and the electro-hydraulic braking system are further technical features. The Mercedes-Benz Vision CLS accelerates from zero to 100 kilometers per hour in 6.4 seconds; the top speed is electronically limited to 250 kilometers per hour. The fuel consumption is 7.5 liters per 100 kilometers.

Serial production

Mercedes-Benz hit the future of the concept vehicle as a production vehicle after a vote by the public. They were enthusiastic about the car, so that the Mercedes-Benz Vision CLS went into series production: as the Mercedes-Benz CLS from 2004.
