Model history
The vehicle made its debut as a near-series concept vehicle GLB Concept in April 2019 at the Shanghai Auto Show with some off-road applications that can no longer be found on the production model. The concept vehicle (PS 224) strong two-liter of a 165 kW gasoline engine of the type M 260 driven. It has an 8-speed dual clutch transmission and the 4MATIC all - wheel drive system .
Mercedes-Benz GLB Concept, Shanghai Auto Show 2019
Daimler published the first pictures of the production vehicle on June 11, 2019. The SUV had its public premiere at the International Motor Show in September 2019. The first vehicles were delivered to customers at the end of 2019. At the start of sales, the limited edition Edition 1 was also available.
The Mercedes-AMG GLB 35, the premier top model of the series, also made its debut at the IAA 2019 .
Market positioning
The SUV is positioned between the GLA and the GLC in the Mercedes-Benz model range . In contrast to the similarly long, five-seat GLC, the GLB optionally has seven seats.
With the 2 Series Gran Tourer, BMW also offers a seven-seater vehicle based on its UKL2 compact class platform. However, this is a van . Originally, Mercedes-Benz also wanted to offer a seven-seater version of the B-Class, but due to the better sales of sport utility vehicles in recent years, it was decided against this plan.
production
The GLB is being built in Aguascalientes, Mexico, and also for the Chinese market in Beijing .
technology
The GLB is based on the front-wheel drive platform MFA2 of the compact class models from Mercedes-Benz. The GLB thus uses the technology that is also used in the A-Class , B-Class and CLA .
"Mercedes-Benz User Experience"
Like the A-Class, the SUV has software that functions as an intelligent personal assistant . It is referred to by the manufacturer as the Mercedes-Benz User Experience (MBUX). A voice control, which is activated with the command “Hey Mercedes”, can be used to give various commands, such as changing the radio station or changing the temperature. The software can be updated wirelessly .
Technical specifications
With the launch of the GLB is provided with a 1.3-liter gasoline engine of the type M 282 EN 14 120 kW (163 hp), a two-liter gasoline engine of the type M 260 DE 20 AL of 165 kW (224 hp) or a two-liter Diesel engine type OM 654q DE 20 with 85 kW (116 PS), 110 kW (150 PS) or 140 kW (190 PS) available. All engines already meet the Euro 6d emissions standard that will come into force in 2020 , which is achieved through exhaust aftertreatment directly on the engine. Here the exhaust gas temperature is higher and the aftertreatment is more effective.
The AMG version is powered by the two-liter petrol engine with 225 kW (306 hp) familiar from the A 35.
