The Mercedes F1 W06 Hybrid is the Formula 1 - racing cars from Mercedes AMG Petronas F1 Team for the Formula 1 World Championship 2015 . It is the seventh Mercedes Formula 1 car. The car was presented on February 1, 2015 at the Circuito de Jerez . The first pictures of the vehicle could already be seen on January 29, 2015 when it was used for a few laps as part of a film day in Silverstone .

Technology and development

The F1 W06 Hybrid is the successor to the Mercedes F1 W05 Hybrid . Although it is a further development, the vehicle is visually different from the previous model due to rule changes for the 2015 Formula 1 season, as the provisions in the area of the vehicle nose have been significantly changed.

The nose is narrower and, according to the regulations, has to start deeper. Mercedes tries to avoid the resulting disruptions to the air flow on the front wing with a very short nose. As a result, the front wing protrudes far in front of the tip of the nose. The rear of the car is slimmer than its predecessor, and the cooling has also been optimized by changing the airbox and air inlets.

After the second week of testing before the start of the season on the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya , it became known that the FIA considered the camera mounting on the F1 W06 Hybrid to be illegal and that the team had to change it before the season opener in Australia .

The F1 W06 Hybrid is powered by the Mercedes-Benz PU106B Hybrid , a 1.6-liter V6 engine with a turbocharger .

Painting and sponsorship

The Mercedes F1 W06 Hybrid is, based on the Mercedes Silver Arrows , predominantly silver in color. The side pods and parts of the front and rear wing are painted cyan because of the main sponsor Petronas . In addition to stickers from Daimler AG (with the Mercedes-Benz brand ), advertising lettering from BlackBerry , Epson , Hugo Boss and Pirelli is attached to the vehicle.

Mercedes also competed in the 2015 season with drivers Lewis Hamilton and Nico Rosberg . Test and development driver was again Pascal Wehrlein . Hamilton decided the world championship prematurely by winning the US Grand Prix .
