The Force India VJM08 is the Formula 1 - racing cars of Sahara Force India for the Formula 1 World Championship 2015 . It is the eighth Force India Formula 1 car. The paintwork of the vehicle was presented in Mexico City on January 21, 2015 , and the presentation was broadcast live on the Internet. However, the vehicle presented here was only a previous year's model with a modified front according to the 2015 regulations.
Force India announced that it would not do the first test drives with the vehicle before the start of the season on the Circuito de Jerez and that it would not test the vehicle until mid-February 2015 at the Barcelona , this was repeated shortly before the start of the second test drives. On February 25, 2015, Force India presented the vehicle on Twitter ; the vehicle was first used during test drives on February 27, 2015.
Technology and development
The VJM08 was the successor to the VJM07 . Due to the changed rules for the 2015 season, Force India modified the shape of the racing car especially at the vehicle nose compared to that of the previous model.
The VJM08 was powered by the Mercedes-Benz PU106B Hybrid , a 1.6-liter V6 engine with a turbocharger . The energy recovery system (ERS) also came from Mercedes. The team purchased the transmission and hydraulics from McLaren Racing . Force India used the Toyota Motorsport wind tunnel in Cologne for aerodynamic studies . The brake system was supplied by AP Racing , while the carbon brake discs were made by Carbon Industries . The wheels were forged by Motegi Racing , the shock absorbers were produced by Koni .
The VJM08 was a further development of the previous year's model. The rear suspension of the vehicle and the hydromechanical suspension have been redesigned. Force India hoped that this would provide better setup options and acceleration when changing the rear axle setup. For aerodynamic development of the car has been wind tunnel of Toyota Motorsport in Cologne used. In contrast to the wind tunnel previously used in Silverstone , UK , vehicle models with a size of 60 percent can be tested in Cologne, while in Silverstone this was only possible with 50 percent models. In addition, the computing power for calculations of numerical fluid mechanics has been expanded to 30 TeraFLOPS .
At the Grand Prix of Great Britain a completely revised version of the vehicle that previously in official tests on the debut Red Bull Ring was used. The most striking innovation was a nose with two holes. These openings formed a closed channel below the nose and ensured an improved air flow under the vehicle without having to produce a short nose, which leads to problems in the mandatory crash test. The front wing and the front air deflectors have also been newly developed. The two air inlets for cooling the ERS, which were attached to the left and right of the roll bar, were omitted because the cooling elements were housed in the side pods instead of above the gearbox. This made it possible to make the engine cover slimmer. This also resulted in a different suspension of the rear wing, it now ran closer to the exhaust pipe that was moved downwards. The shape of the rear suspension has also been revised, it has been adapted to the hydromechanical suspension.
Painting and sponsorship
The VJM08 was painted in black and silver, and a curved orange stripe ran across the vehicle. The title sponsor and shareholder Sahara India Pariwar was represented as a sponsor on the side pods. Other major sponsors of the team were Kingfisher Airlines and the United Breweries Group with its spirits brand Royal Challenge, companies that are close to the team boss Vijay Mallya . In addition, Claro, a brand name for cellular networks from América Móvil in several Latin American countries , the NEC Corporation and the spirits manufacturer Diageo with its Smirnoff brand were represented on the vehicle.
driver
The drivers stayed the same as last year. For Nico Hülkenberg it was the third and for Sergio Pérez the second season for Force India.
