The Force India VJM11 is the Formula 1 - racing car of Force India for the Formula 1 2018 World Cup . It is Force India's eleventh Formula 1 car and was presented on February 25, 2018 at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya . After Force India went bankrupt in July 2018, the newly founded racing team Racing Point launched the VJM11.
Technology and development
Like all Formula 1 vehicles of 2018, the Force India VJM11 is a rear-wheel drive monoposto with a monocoque made of carbon fiber reinforced plastic (CFRP) . In addition to the monocoque, many other parts of the vehicle, including body parts and the steering wheel, are made of CFRP.
The VJM11 is the successor to the VJM10 . Since the technical regulations for the 2018 season remained largely stable, the vehicle is largely a further development.
The VJM11 is driven by a in the center of the vehicle -mounted 1.6 liter V-6 engine of Mercedes with a turbocharger and a 120 kW strong electric motor , so it is a hybrid electric vehicle . The power is transmitted via a sequential eight-speed gearbox operated by rocker switches. The vehicle has only two pedals, an accelerator pedal (right) and a brake pedal (left). Just like many other functions, the clutch , which is only used when starting from a standstill, is operated via a lever on the steering wheel.
The total width of the vehicle is 2000 mm, the width between the front and rear axles 1600 mm, the height 950 mm. The front wing has a width of 1800 mm, the rear wing of 950 mm and a height of 800 mm. The diffuser has a total height of 175 mm and a width of 1050 mm. The car is equipped with 305 mm wide front tires and 405 mm wide rear tires from the standard supplier Pirelli , which are mounted on 13-inch wheels. The brake discs are made of silicon carbide ceramic reinforced with carbon fibers .
Like all Formula 1 vehicles since 2011 , the VJM11 has a Drag Reduction System (DRS), which reduces the drag of the vehicle on the straights by flattening part of the rear wing if it is allowed to be used. The DRS is also activated with a switch on the steering wheel of the car.
Unlike its predecessor, the VJM11 is equipped with the Halo system , which provides additional protection for the driver's head. This system increases the weight of the vehicle to 733 kg. The eye-catching fin on the engine cover that the previous model had is missing due to a change in the technical regulations.
Painting and sponsorship
The VJM11 is mainly painted in pink, with additional color accents in magenta and silver. The lower area of the chassis is painted black.
BWT AG and title sponsor and shareholder Sahara India Pariwar advertise extensively on the vehicle. Other major sponsors of the team are Kingfisher Airlines , a company that is close to the team boss Vijay Mallya , and Grupo Carso (with Claro, a brand name in several Latin American countries for cellular networks from América Móvil , the Internet provider Infinitum and Telcel belonging to Telmex ). In addition, Hype Energy , NEC Corporation , Pirelli , Ravenol , Sofina , Uralkali and the Asian gaming platform w66.com represented with advertising stickers on the vehicle.
driver
Force India competed in the 2018 season up to the Hungarian Grand Prix, as in the previous year, with drivers Esteban Ocon and Sergio Pérez . Racing Point took over the drivers for its first race in Belgium .
Races
Force India registered the VJM11 in the first twelve races of the 2018 season. Up to the Hungarian Grand Prix, the team had scored 59 world championship points; so it was in the interim ranking of the manufacturer's championship (constructor's championship) in sixth place. Since Racing Point is not regarded as the legal successor to Force India, but as a newly founded racing team, the team has no claim to the prize money due to Force India and previously won world championship points. Racing Point therefore began its Formula 1 involvement at the 2018 Belgian Prize without points.
