The Red Bull Racing RB14 is the Formula 1 - racing cars from Aston Martin, Red Bull Racing for the Formula 1 2018 World Cup . It is the team's 14th Formula 1 car and was presented at Silverstone on February 19, 2018 .
Technology and development
Like all Formula 1 vehicles of 2018, the RB14 is a rear-wheel drive monoposto with a monocoque made of carbon fiber reinforced plastic (CFRP) . In addition to the monocoque, many other parts of the vehicle, including the body parts and the steering wheel, are made of CFRP. The brake discs are also made from a heat-resistant carbon fiber reinforced composite material.
Since the technical regulations for the 2018 season remained largely stable, the vehicle has largely been developed further from its predecessor, the Red Bull RB13 .
Of RB14 is driven by an in vehicle center -mounted 1.6 liter V-6 engine of Renault with a turbocharger and a 120 kW strong electric motor , so it is a hybrid electric vehicle . The Red Bull Racing car's sequential gearbox has eight gears. The gear change is triggered by paddles on the steering wheel. The vehicle has only two pedals, an accelerator pedal (right) and a brake pedal (left). Just like many other functions, the clutch , which is only used when starting from a standstill, is operated via a lever on the steering wheel.
The total width of the vehicle is 2000 mm, the width between the front and rear axles 1600 mm, the height 950 mm. The front wing has a width of 1800 mm, the rear wing of 950 mm and a height of 800 mm. The diffuser has a total height of 175 mm and a width of 1050 mm. The car is equipped with 305 mm wide front tires and 405 mm wide rear tires from the standard supplier Pirelli , which are mounted on 13-inch wheels.
Like all Formula 1 vehicles since 2011 , the RB14 has a Drag Reduction System (DRS) that reduces the drag of the vehicle on the straights by flattening part of the rear wing , if it is allowed to be used. The DRS is also activated with a switch on the steering wheel of the car.
Unlike its predecessor, the RB14 is equipped with the Halo system , which provides additional protection for the driver's head. This system increases the weight of the vehicle to 733 kg. The eye-catching fin on the engine cover that the previous model had is missing due to a change in the technical regulations.
Painting and sponsorship
At the presentation, the RB14 was mostly painted in dark blue and provided with silver sponsor stickers. During the test drives before the season, it was mainly painted in dark blue and yellow, each in matt colors.
It advertise Aston Martin , AT & T , Citrix , ExxonMobil (with the brands Esso and Mobil 1 ), Pirelli, Puma , smoke , Red Bull and TAG Heuer on the vehicle.
driver
Red Bull Racing competed again in the 2018 season with drivers Daniel Ricciardo and Max Verstappen .
