Mobil 1 is a brand originally developed by the mineral oil company Mobil Oil and has been marketed by ExxonMobil since its merger with Exxon .

The brand was introduced in 1974 as a fully synthetic motor oil 5W-20 and advertised for a mileage of up to 25,000  miles or around 40,000 km. The recommendation for mileage was later omitted and the product was also revised for other viscosities . In 2002, Mobil 1 introduced the “SuperSyn” technology, which was intended to reduce wear and tear. The so-called "Extended Performance" presented in 2005 is intended to further improve this technology.

In addition to motor oil, oil filters, lubricants, transmission oil and lubricants for transmissions are also sold under the brand.

Sponsorship

Mobil 1 is an important long-term partner of the Formula 1 racing team Red Bull as well as Penske Racing in the Indy Racing League and NASCAR . In addition to supplying lubricants to Red Bull, Mobil 1 is an important sponsor in Formula 1, for example as sponsor of the German Grand Prix from 1987 to 2006 and the French Grand Prix from 1998 to 2005.
