The Red Bull RB12 is the twelfth Formula 1 - racing cars of Red Bull Racing . It will be used in the 2016 Formula 1 World Championship . It was presented to the public on February 22nd, 2016 at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya .

Technology and development

The RB12 is the successor model to the RB11 and a further development of the previous model.

Like the RB11, the RB12 only passed the required crash tests shortly before the start of the first test drives before the season.

The RB12 is powered by a 1.6-liter V6 engine from Renault with a turbocharger , which is called TAG Heuer for marketing reasons .

Painting and sponsorship

The paintwork of the vehicle was presented in London on February 17, 2016, even before the vehicle was presented. The basic color is dark blue, the total logos on the front wing end plates and the rear wing give the vehicle additional red color accents when viewed from the side. Large stickers from Red Bull are placed on the vehicle, the Red Bull logo on the bonnet and on the nose, the Red Bull lettering on the front and rear wings and on the side of the monocoque . Other visible sponsors are Aston Martin , AT&T , the EXNESS Group , Hisense , Rauch , Siemens and TAG Heuer.

driver

Red Bull Racing contested the first four races of the season again with the driver duo Daniel Ricciardo and Daniil Kwjat . From the Spanish Grand Prix , Kwjat was replaced by Max Verstappen .

2016 season

After the Mercedes F1 W07 Hybrid , the RB12 was the second fastest vehicle in the field over the season. If they fell behind Ferrari at the beginning of the season , the team made significant progress through the further development of the car and the drive unit by Renault, so that at the end of the season Red Bull was clearly in second place in the constructors' championship.

The team benefited from collisions and engine damage to the Mercedes drivers in Spain and Malaysia , so that Ricciardo and Verstappen each celebrated a race victory. In addition, Ricciardo achieved the only pole position of the season in Monaco that was not achieved by Lewis Hamilton or Nico Rosberg . Ricciardo also achieved third place in the drivers' championship.
