The Renault RS16 is the Formula 1 - racing cars of the Renault F1 Team for the Formula 1 World Championship 2016 . It is the 21st Formula 1 racing car from Renault. The car was presented to the public on February 22nd, 2016 at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya .
Technology and development
The RS16 is the successor of the Lotus E23 Hybrid and is powered by a 1.6-liter V6 engine from Renault with a turbocharger . Visually, the car hardly differs from the previous model, the biggest differences are the larger side boxes, which are necessary because of the greater cooling requirements of the Renault engine compared to the Mercedes engine of the E23 Hybrid.
Painting and sponsorship
The RS16 was painted in black during the presentation and the test drives before the season, with smaller yellow accents. In addition to large sponsor stickers from Renault, there were white lettering from Infiniti , Microsoft Dynamics , Jack & Jones , Total and EMC Corporation on the vehicle. In addition, Genii Capital , the previous owner and now shareholder of the team, advertises with its lettering on the upper strut of the front suspension and the engine cover.
Renault unveiled the final color design shortly before the Australian Grand Prix . Based on the Renault RS01 , the vehicle is painted yellow, the front and rear wings are black.
driver
Renault competes in 2016 with the driver duo Kevin Magnussen and Jolyon Palmer . Pastor Maldonado , who was originally confirmed as a regular pilot, lost his cockpit shortly before the start of the season because his sponsor Petróleos de Venezuela had got into economic difficulties due to the drop in oil prices.
2016 season
The vehicle suffered greatly from the fact that Renault had only taken over the previous Lotus team at a very late point in time, and the development of the car, which was supposed to have a Mercedes engine, was therefore well advanced.
The drivers were mostly in the lower midfield and only achieved three points. This put Renault in ninth place in the constructors' championship at the end of the season.
