The Toro Rosso STr11 is the eleventh Formula 1 - racing cars the Toro Rosso . It was used in the Formula 1 World Championship in 2016 and was first seen on February 22, 2016 during test drives on the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya , an official presentation did not take place.

Technology and development

The STR11 is the successor to the STR10 . Although it is a further development, the vehicle is visually different from the previous model. The STR11 is powered by the Ferrari Type 059/4 , a 1.6-liter V6 engine with a turbocharger in the 2015 season specification, while the previous model had a Renault engine. This makes it the only vehicle in the 2016 Formula 1 World Championship that started with an engine from the previous year.

The nose and front suspension of the car have been redesigned, the side boxes and engine cover are much smaller than on the STR10, which indicates a lower cooling requirement of the Ferrari engine. Since the change of the engine supplier was decided very late, many compromises had to be made in the development of the vehicle. According to James Key, among other things, the drivers had to reduce their weight in order to be as little as possible above the minimum weight together with the vehicle.

Painting and sponsorship

The Toro Rosso STR11 was painted in a dark blue basic color during the first test drives before the season, there were no sponsor logos on the vehicle.

The paintwork was presented before the second week of testing. Like the previous model, the car is painted in a dark blue basic color and has a gold nose. Due to the Red Bull sponsor logos, the car has red accents. Red Bull advertises with the company logo on the front wing and the side boxes, and on the rear wing for Red Bull Cola , Red Bull MOBILE , ServusTV and The Red Bulletin . Other sponsor logos on the car are from Casio Edifice and Sapinda Holding .

driver

Toro Rosso contested the first four races of the 2016 season again with the driver duo Carlos Sainz junior and Max Verstappen . From the Spanish Grand Prix , Daniil Kwjat replaced Verstappen.
