The Scuderia Toro Rosso str13 is the Formula 1 - racing car of Toro Rosso for the F1 2018 World Cup . It is the team's 13th Formula 1 car. It was presented on February 26, 2018 at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya .

Technology and development

Like all Formula 1 vehicles of 2018, the Scuderia Toro Rosso STR13 is a rear-wheel drive monoposto with a monocoque made of carbon fiber reinforced plastic (CFRP) . In addition to the monocoque, many other parts of the vehicle, including body parts and the steering wheel, are made of CFRP.

The STR13 is the successor to the Toro Rosso STR12 . Since the technical regulations for the 2018 season remained largely stable, the vehicle is largely a further development.

The str13 is driven by a in the center of the vehicle -mounted 1.6 liter V-6 engine of Honda with a turbocharger and a 120  kW strong electric motor , so it is a hybrid electric vehicle . The car's sequential gearbox has eight gears. The gear change is triggered by paddles on the steering wheel. The vehicle has only two pedals, an accelerator pedal (right) and a brake pedal (left). Just like many other functions, the clutch , which is only used when starting from a standstill, is operated via a lever on the steering wheel.

The total width of the vehicle is 2000 mm, the width between the front and rear axles 1600 mm, the height 950 mm. The front wing has a width of 1800 mm, the rear wing of 950 mm and a height of 800 mm. The diffuser has a total height of 175 mm and a width of 1050 mm. The car is equipped with 305 mm wide front tires and 405 mm wide rear tires from the standard supplier Pirelli , which are mounted on 13-inch wheels.

Like all Formula 1 vehicles since 2011 , the STR13 has a Drag Reduction System (DRS), which reduces the drag of the vehicle on the straights by flattening part of the rear wing , if it is allowed to be used. The DRS is also activated with a switch on the steering wheel of the car.

Unlike its predecessor, the STR13 is equipped with the Halo system , which provides additional protection for the driver's head. This system increases the weight of the vehicle to 733 kg. The eye-catching fin on the engine cover that the previous model had is missing due to a change in the technical regulations. Due to the change of the engine partner, which was only decided at a relatively late point in time and tied up a large part of the team's resources, the vehicle hardly differs from the previous model. Differences can only be made out in the area of the vehicle nose and the front wing attachment. There is a winglet on the attachment of the Halo system to the vehicle , which is intended to direct the air flow to the rear of the vehicle.

Painting and sponsorship

The Scuderia Toro Rosso STR13 is mainly painted in blue, with a red stripe on the side of the vehicle and red side panels on the front and rear wings. The main sponsor Red Bull's logo is affixed to the engine cover in silver, and the Red Bull lettering on the front and rear wings and the side pods is also silver.

Acronis , Casio (with the Edifice brand), engine supplier Honda and Pirelli also advertise on the vehicle.

driver

Toro Rosso competes in the 2018 season with drivers Pierre Gasly and Brendon Hartley , both of whom made their Formula 1 World Championship debuts for the team in the last third of the preseason after Carlos Sainz Jr. switched to Renault during the season and Daniil Vyacheslavovich Kvyat was released shortly afterwards.
