The Toro Rosso STR1 is the first Formula 1 - racing cars the Toro Rosso . It was used in the 2006 Formula 1 season , the engine supplier was Cosworth . On March 11, 2006, it was presented to the public at the Bahrain International Circuit .
The Italian Vitantonio Liuzzi and the American Scott Speed were the two drivers of the STR1. Liuzzi was mostly the faster driver. Although both of them were often involved in accidents and made mistakes, the manager Gerhard Berger was satisfied with their performance.
The engine supplier for 2006 was Cosworth , so the partnership with the British engine manufacturer was taken over by Minardi. From 2006 onwards, the regulations basically restricted the use of eight-cylinder engines with a displacement of 2.4 liters (see Formula 1 rules ). Due to an exception, Toro Rosso was able to continue to use the previous 3.0 liter ten- cylinder engines. In order not to give Toro Rosso an advantage over the other teams, the engines had to have a speed limit of 16,700 rpm. In addition, an air flow limiter had to be used.
The Toro Rosso STR1 is painted in a dark blue basic color. Due to the Red Bull sponsor logos , the STR1 has red accents.
The team finally ended the season in ninth place in the constructors' championship with one point.
Further use of the chassis
In the BOSS GP racing series , two STR1s are registered for the current 2018 season, each of which is driven by the Austrian and reigning champion Ingo Gerstl and the German Florian Schnitzenbaumer . This racing series includes two Benetton B197s , a Minardi PS04B , an Arrows A22 and a Super Aguri SA06 .
