The Scuderia Toro Rosso STR14 is the Formula 1 - racing car of Toro Rosso for the Formula 1 World Championship 2019 . It is the team's 14th Formula 1 car and was presented online on February 11, 2019.

Technology and development

Like all Formula 1 vehicles of 2019, the STR14 is a rear-wheel drive monoposto with a monocoque made of carbon fiber reinforced plastic (CFRP) . In addition to the monocoque, many other parts of the vehicle, including the body parts and the steering wheel, are made of CFRP. The brake discs are also made from a composite material reinforced with carbon fibers.

The STR14 is the successor to the Scuderia Toro Rosso STR13 . Although the technical regulations remained largely stable for the 2019 season, the vehicle is largely a new development in which - within the framework of the technical regulations - parts of the RB14 model from the sister team Red Bull Racing are used.

The car is a hybrid electric car . It has a 1.6-liter V6 mid-engine of Honda with turbocharger and a 120  kW strong electric motor . The car's sequential gearbox has eight gears. The gear change is triggered by paddles on the steering wheel. The gearbox is manufactured by Red Bull Racing. Like the vehicles of the competitors, the car has two pedals, the gas pedal on the right and the brake pedal on the left . The clutch , which the driver only uses when starting from a standing position, is operated via a lever on the steering wheel.

The total width of the vehicle is 2000 mm, the width between the front and rear axles 1600 mm, the height 950 mm. The front wing has a width of 2000 mm, the rear wing of 1050 mm and a height of 820 mm. The diffuser has a total height of 175 mm and a width of 1050 mm. The car is equipped with 305 mm wide front tires and 405 mm wide rear tires from the standard supplier Pirelli , which are mounted on 13-inch wheels.

Like all Formula 1 vehicles since 2011 , the STR14 has a Drag Reduction System (DRS), which reduces the drag of the vehicle on the straights by flattening part of the rear wing if it is allowed to be used. The DRS is also activated with a switch on the steering wheel of the car.

The STR14 is equipped with the Halo system , which provides additional protection for the driver's head.

Painting and sponsorship

The STR14 is mainly painted in blue, with a red stripe on the side of the vehicle and red side panels on the front and rear wings. The main sponsor Red Bull's logo is in silver on the engine cover, and the Red Bull lettering on the front and rear wings and the side pods is also silver.

Casio (with the Edifice brand ), engine supplier Honda, Moose Cider and Pirelli also advertise on the vehicle.

driver

Toro Rosso initially competed in the 2019 season with drivers Daniil Kwjat and Alexander Albon . Kwjat was a simulator driver at Ferrari in 2018 and replaces Pierre Gasly , who is moving to sister team Red Bull Racing, Albon made his debut in the Formula 1 World Championship and replaced Brendon Hartley .

For the Belgian Grand Prix , Gasly returned to Scuderia Toro Rosso, replacing Albon, who in turn joined Red Bull Racing.
