Qualifying

The qualifying consisted of three parts with a net running time of 45 minutes. In the first qualifying segment (Q1), the drivers had 18 minutes to qualify for the race. All drivers who achieved a time in the first section that was a maximum of 107 percent of the fastest lap time qualified for the Grand Prix. The best 15 drivers reached the next part. Verstappen was fastest. The two Williams pilots, the two Haas pilots and Stroll were eliminated.

The second section (Q2) lasted 15 minutes. The ten fastest drivers qualified for the third part of the qualifying and had to start the race with the tires used here, all other drivers had a free choice of tires for the start of the race. Hamilton was fastest. The Alfa Romeo, Renault drivers and Pérez were eliminated.

The final section (Q3) lasted twelve minutes, during which the first ten starting positions were awarded. Verstappen set the fastest time with a lap time of 1: 14.758 minutes ahead of Leclerc and Vettel. However, he was subsequently moved back three starting positions because he had not slowed down after a Bottas accident despite the yellow flags , and he received two penalty points. It was the seventh pole position for Leclerc in the Formula 1 World Championship and the sixth for a Ferrari driver in a row.

run

Hamilton won the race ahead of Vettel and Bottas. It was Hamilton's 83rd victory in the Formula 1 World Championship, the tenth of which this season. For Mercedes it was the 100th Grand Prix victory in the Formula 1 World Championship, and it was Hamilton's 100th podium with Mercedes. The remaining points were placed by Leclerc, Albon, Verstappen, Pérez, Ricciardo, Gasly and Hülkenberg. Since Leclerc drove the fastest race lap, he received an additional point.

The top three positions in the drivers 'and constructors' championships remained unchanged.
