The 2019 Mexican Grand Prix (officially: Formula 1 Gran Premio de México 2019 ) took place on October 27 at the Autódromo Hermanos Rodríguez in Mexico City and was the eighteenth race of the 2019 Formula 1 World Championship .

After the Japanese Grand Prix , Lewis Hamilton led the drivers' standings with 64 points ahead of Valtteri Bottas and with 117 points ahead of Charles Leclerc . Only Hamilton and Bottas had a mathematical chance of winning the drivers' championship. In the constructors' championship, Mercedes was already world champion, Ferrari was second, 179 points behind , while Red Bull Racing was 289 points behind in third.
At the Mexican Grand Prix, Pirelli provided the drivers with the tire compounds P Zero Hard (white, compound C2 ), P Zero Medium (yellow, C3 ) and P Zero Soft (red, C4 ), as well as Cinturato Intermediates (green) and Cinturato Full for wet conditions -Wets (blue) available.
Sebastian Vettel (seven), Daniel Ricciardo (five), Antonio Giovinazzi , Kevin Magnussen (four each), Lance Stroll (three), Romain Grosjean , Hamilton, Daniil Kwjat , Leclerc, Kimi Räikkönen , Max Verstappen (two each), Alexander Albon , Pierre Gasly , Sergio Pérez , George Russell and Carlos Sainz jr. (one at a time) went into the race weekend with penalty points.
Race stewards were Silvia Bellot (ESP), Gerd Ennser (DEU), Danny Sullivan (USA) and Freddy van Beuren (MEX).
With Verstappen (twice) and Hamilton (once) two former winners competed at this Grand Prix.

In the first free practice, Hamilton set the fastest time with a lap time of 1: 17.327 minutes ahead of Leclerc and Verstappen. The training was interrupted by Stroll for a few minutes after an accident.
In the second free practice session, Vettel was fastest with a lap time of 1: 16.607 minutes ahead of Verstappen and Leclerc. This training was also interrupted for a few minutes after an accident by Albon.
In the third free practice, Leclerc set the fastest time in 1: 16.145 minutes ahead of Vettel and Bottas.
Qualifying
The qualifying consisted of three parts with a net running time of 45 minutes. In the first qualifying segment (Q1), the drivers had 18 minutes to qualify for the race. All drivers who achieved a time in the first section that was a maximum of 107 percent of the fastest lap time qualified for the Grand Prix. The best 15 drivers reached the next part. Verstappen was fastest. The two Williams pilots, the two Haas pilots and Stroll were eliminated.
The second section (Q2) lasted 15 minutes. The ten fastest drivers qualified for the third part of the qualifying and had to start the race with the tires used here, all other drivers had a free choice of tires for the start of the race. Hamilton was fastest. The Alfa Romeo, Renault drivers and Pérez were eliminated.
The final section (Q3) lasted twelve minutes, during which the first ten starting positions were awarded. Verstappen set the fastest time with a lap time of 1: 14.758 minutes ahead of Leclerc and Vettel. However, he was subsequently moved back three starting positions because he had not slowed down after a Bottas accident despite the yellow flags , and he received two penalty points. It was the seventh pole position for Leclerc in the Formula 1 World Championship and the sixth for a Ferrari driver in a row.

Hamilton won the race ahead of Vettel and Bottas. It was Hamilton's 83rd victory in the Formula 1 World Championship, the tenth of which this season. For Mercedes it was the 100th Grand Prix victory in the Formula 1 World Championship, and it was Hamilton's 100th podium with Mercedes. The remaining points were placed by Leclerc, Albon, Verstappen, Pérez, Ricciardo, Gasly and Hülkenberg. Since Leclerc drove the fastest race lap, he received an additional point.
The top three positions in the drivers 'and constructors' championships remained unchanged.
