The Grand Prix of Azerbaijan in 2019 (officially Formula 1 SOCAR Azerbaijan Grand Prix in 2019 ) took place on 28 April at the Baku City Circuit in Baku held and was the fourth race of the Formula 1 World Championship in 2019 .

After the Chinese Grand Prix , Lewis Hamilton leads the drivers' standings with six points ahead of Valtteri Bottas and 29 points ahead of Max Verstappen . In the constructors' championship, Mercedes leads Ferrari with 57 points and Red Bull Racing with 78 points .

At the Azerbaijan Grand Prix, Pirelli provides the drivers with the tire compounds P Zero Hard (white, compound C2 ), P Zero Medium (yellow, C3 ) and P Zero Soft (red, C4 ), as well as Cinturato Intermediates (green) and Cinturato Full for wet conditions -Wets (blue) available.

There are two DRS zones on the route , which remain unchanged compared to the previous year. The first zone is on the start-finish straight and begins 54 meters after curve 20 , the measuring point is at the apex of the curve. The second zone begins 347 meters after curve two , here the measuring point is on the safety car line at the level of the start of the pit entrance.

Romain Grosjean (eight), Lance Stroll (seven), Sergio Pérez , Verstappen, Sebastian Vettel (five each), Bottas (four), Nico Hülkenberg , Carlos Sainz jr. (three each), Pierre Gasly , Daniil Kwjat , Kevin Magnussen and Kimi Räikkönen (two each) go into the race weekend with penalty points.

With Hamilton and Daniel Ricciardo , the winners of the two races called the Azerbaijan Grand Prix will compete in this Grand Prix.

free training

The first free practice session was stopped after just 13 minutes after George Russell collided with a manhole cover that had previously come loose. At this point, only the Ferrari drivers had completed a timed lap.

In the second free practice, Charles Leclerc set the fastest time with a lap time of 1: 42.872 minutes, ahead of Vettel and Hamilton. The training was interrupted twice due to accidents between Stroll and Kwjat.

In the third free practice session, Leclerc was again fastest, this time with a lap time of 1: 41.604 minutes. Vettel was second ahead of Verstappen.

Remarks

  1. Giovinazzi was moved back ten starting positions because of the use of the third control element this season, the control electronics.
  2. Raikkonen had to start from the pit lane due to the installation of a new front wing as a result of a failed front wing test.
  3. Gasly had to start from the pit lane because his vehicle exceeded the permitted fuel flow rate and he ignored the call for weighing in FP2.
  4. Kubica had to start from the pit lane because new parts were being installed on his vehicle under parc fermé regulations .
