The 2019 Spanish Grand Prix (officially Formula 1 Emirates Gran Premio de España 2019 ) took place on May 12th at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya in Montmeló and was the fifth race of the 2019 Formula 1 World Championship .

After the Azerbaijan Grand Prix , Valtteri Bottas leads the drivers' standings with one point ahead of Lewis Hamilton and 35 points ahead of Sebastian Vettel . In the constructors' championship, Mercedes leads Ferrari with 74 points and Red Bull Racing with 109 points .
At the Spanish Grand Prix, Pirelli provides the drivers with the tire compounds P Zero Hard (white, compound C1 ), P Zero Medium (yellow, C2 ) and P Zero Soft (red, C3 ), as well as Cinturato Intermediates (green) and Cinturato Full for wet conditions -Wets (blue) available.
There are two DRS zones on the route , which remain unchanged compared to the previous year. The measuring point for the first zone is 86 meters in front of the Campsa , the zone begins 40 meters after the curve. The measuring point for the second DRS zone, which is on the start-finish straight , is the safety car line; the DRS can then be activated 157 meters after the New Holland .
Romain Grosjean (eight), Lance Stroll (seven), Max Verstappen , Vettel (five each), Bottas (four), Nico Hülkenberg , Sergio Pérez , Carlos Sainz jr. (three each), Pierre Gasly , Daniil Kwjat , Kimi Räikkönen and Daniel Ricciardo (two each) go into the race weekend with penalty points.
With Hamilton (three times), Raikkonen (twice), Verstappen and Vettel (once each), four former winners compete in this Grand Prix.

In the first free practice, Bottas set the fastest time with a lap time of 1: 17.951 minutes ahead of Vettel and Charles Leclerc .
In the second free practice session, Bottas was again fastest, this time with a lap time of 1: 17.284 minutes. Hamilton was second ahead of Leclerc.
In the third free practice session, Hamilton set the fastest lap time in 1.16.568 minutes ahead of Leclerc and Bottas.
Qualifying
The qualifying consisted of three parts with a net running time of 45 minutes. In the first qualifying segment (Q1), the drivers had 18 minutes to qualify for the race. All drivers who achieved a time in the first section that was a maximum of 107 percent of the fastest lap time qualified for the Grand Prix. The best 15 drivers reached the next part. Bottas was the fastest. Hülkenberg, Stroll and Giovinazzi as well as both Williams drivers and retired.
The second section (Q2) lasted 15 minutes. The ten fastest pilots qualified for the third part of qualifying. Again Bottas was fastest. The McLaren drivers, Albon, Pérez and Kimi Räikkönen were eliminated.
The final section (Q3) lasted twelve minutes, during which the first ten starting positions were awarded. Bottas set the fastest time with a lap time of 1: 15.406 minutes ahead of Hamilton and Vettel.

Lewis Hamilton won the race ahead of Bottas and Max Verstappen . It was the 76th victory for Hamilton in the Formula 1 World Championship. The remaining points were placed by Vettel, Leclerc, Gasly, Kevin Magnussen , Sainz, Kwjat and Grosjean. Hamilton achieved the fastest race lap and therefore received an additional point.
In the drivers' standings, Hamilton took the lead in the overall standings from Bottas. Vettel was now third. The first three positions in the constructors' championship remained unchanged
