Reports
background
In the week after the Grand Prix of Portugal which decided FIA , Nigel Mansell for the next World Championship race in Spain to lock. The reason for this was the fact that he had ignored his disqualification after unauthorized reversing in the pit lane. Mansell threatened to end his Formula 1 career if the decision was not reversed, but ultimately had to give in.
Jean Alesi took over the cockpit of the second Tyrrell in place of his substitute Johnny Herbert alongside regular pilot Jonathan Palmer . Christian Danner had to vacate his place at Rial Racing in favor of Gregor Foitek , who had already unsuccessfully contested the first part of the season for EuroBrun .
training
Ayrton Senna qualified for pole position ahead of Gerhard Berger , Alain Prost and Pierluigi Martini , who again showed a convincing training performance. Philippe Alliot and Riccardo Patrese formed the third row on the grid.
run
Senna led the race from the first lap to the finish, followed by Berger, who also consistently defended his position. Prost, in third place, only dropped to fourth place for one lap due to a pit stop. Alesi crossed the finish line in fourth ahead of Patrese and Alliot.
