Christian Danner (born April 4, 1958 in Munich ) is a former German automobile racing driver . He is a Formula 1 commentator for RTL Television . Among other things, he competed in 36 races of the Formula 1 World Championship in the 1980s, and Danner competed in the DTM in the 1990s . His father was the well-known accident researcher Max Danner .
Career
Danner began his motorsport career after graduating from high school in 1977, graduated from Karlsgymnasium Munich-Pasing , in the Renault 5 Cup and switched to Formula 2 in the early 1980s . On April 24, 1983, he secured the ADAC - Eifel race Formula 2 lap record on the Nordschleife of the Nürburgring . From 1985 Danner started in the newly created Formula 3000 European Championship, in which he was the first driver to win the overall standings. He also took part in the traditional Le Mans 24-hour race three times , but was unable to achieve any success there.
Between 1985 and 1989 Danner started in Formula 1 , where he mostly had to compete with technically inferior equipment. In 36 starts, he only reached the finish line in 15 races and achieved a total of four championship points. Danner retired early 21 times, and ten times he even missed qualifying for the race. After his retirement from Formula 1, Danner took part in races in the US IndyCar World Series and the DTM . He became the first German driver in history to score championship points in both Formula 1 and IndyCars. In the DTM, Danner won five races between 1988 and 1996 and was on the podium 19 times. In 1993, his most successful season, he finished fifth overall with an Alfa Romeo 155 V6 TI .
1997 Danner withdrew from active motorsport. One year later, he replaced Jochen Mass as co- commentator on the live broadcasts of Formula 1 on the private broadcaster RTL and became a traffic safety expert at VOX ( Auto mobil , formerly auto motor und sport tv ). In 1999 he was awarded the German Television Prize in the category "Best Sport TV Live Transmission". In addition to his work for television, Danner regularly writes columns in the monthly membership magazine ADAC motorwelt (until 2010) and on the motorsport online platform Motorsport-Magazin.com.
As a racing driver, Danner was only active in the semi to non-professional field. He took part in the GP Masters veteran racing series in 2005 and 2006 and occasionally competed in the Mini Challenge .
In 2019 Danner started with a McLaren 570S in the ADAC GT4 Germany .

In 2006 and 2011 synchronized Danner for Pixar - animated films Cars , to which further racing colleagues such as Michael Schumacher , Mika Hakkinen and Niki Lauda participated, and Cars 2 the character of "Chris Dinner". Christian Danner is a vegetarian.
