Peter Oberndorfer (born July 5, 1956 ) is a former German automobile racing driver .
Career in motorsport
Peter Oberndorfer was best known as a driver in the German Touring Car Championship . When this championship was revived in 1984 , Oberndorfer was at the start as a driver for Helmut Marko's team with an Alfa Romeo Alfetta GTV6 . By the end of the 1991 season , which he contested on an Opel Omega 3000 24V Evo , he had competed in 94 races. He celebrated his only race win in his debut year when he won the German Grand Prix for touring cars at the Hockenheimring ahead of Per-Gunnar Andersson and Olaf Manthey . His best overall placement was fifth in 1985 .
Oberndorfer started his career in 1979 in the Renault 5 Eurocup with a tenth place in the overall standings. This was followed by operations in the Procar series , a season in the German Formula 3 Championship in 1983 and a 16th place finish in the German Racing Championship in the same year . In 1987 he was second overall behind Roland Asch in the Porsche 944 Turbo Cup and in 2002 overall third in the 24-hour race at the Nürburgring . In 1984 he won this 24-hour race .
In 1981 he drove the 24-hour race at Le Mans and finished the 1000 km race on the Nürburgring in tenth place overall.
