Reports
background
After the race in Portugal last year in April, another date was set for 1986 towards the end of the season.
The only change in the field of participants compared to the Italian Grand Prix two weeks earlier was the return of Allen Berg instead of Alex Caffi .
training
Ayrton Senna secured his seventh pole position of the year ahead of Nigel Mansell , Alain Prost , Gerhard Berger , Teo Fabi and Nelson Piquet .
All drivers achieved their respective best times during the second qualifying session on Saturday.
run
Nigel Mansell immediately took the lead and defended this position to the finish. Senna followed him for much of the race in second place. Only when he had new tires fitted to the pits on lap 32 did he relinquish his position to Prost for one lap. However, on the final lap he dropped to fourth place behind Prost and Piquet due to a lack of fuel. The two Ferrari pilots Stefan Johansson and Michele Alboreto took places five and six.
The Williams team was clear as the winner of the Constructors' World Championship after the race.
