Philippe Streiff (born June 26, 1955 in Grenoble ) is a former French racing car driver who was active in Formula 1 from 1984 to 1988 .

Career

Monoposto

Streiff made his Formula 1 debut at the 1984 Portuguese Grand Prix on a Renault , but did not cross the finish line due to a defective drive shaft . In 1985 he drove four races for Ligier and was signed by Tyrrell at the end of the season to replace the fatally injured Stefan Bellof . Streiff drove for Ken Tyrrell's racing team until 1987 . In 1988 he drove for the French racing team AGS . Shortly before the start of the 1989 season , he had a serious accident during training drives in Brazil and has been paraplegic from the neck down since then .

Streiff scored a total of eleven points in 53 races. The greatest success of his Formula 1 career was third place at the 1985 Australian Grand Prix .

Sports car

When 24-hour race at Le Mans , he was able to achieve two podium finishes in four starts: in 1981 he won together with Jean-Louis Schlesser and Jacky Haran second place on a Rondeau M379 and 1984 along with David Hobbs and Sarel van der Merwe third place on a Porsche 956 B.
