Laurent Redon , in some sources also Laurent Rédon , (born August 5, 1973 in Saint-Chamond ) is a former French racing driver .

Career

Laurent Redon began his career in karting and switched to Formula 3 with the monopostos in 1994 . In 1994 he competed in his first season in the French Formula 3 championship , which he finished ninth overall (champion Jean-Philippe Belloc ). In the following year he secured the championship title with four wins this season ahead of his compatriot Nicolas Minassian .

In 1996 he switched to the International Formula 3000 Championship , where he competed for DAMS . At the end of the year he finished eighth in the final classification with seven points and was well ahead of his teammate Belloc, who did not score any championship points. In 1997 he switched to Super Nova Racing and became a teammate of Ricardo Zonta . While Zonta won the championship, Redon had to settle for 9th place.

In 1998 and 1998 Redon was involved in Formula 1 without contesting a single world championship run. In 1998 he was a test driver at Minardi and in 1999 at Benetton .

After the end of his Formula 1 days, Henri Pescarolo hired him to compete for his team in the 2001 European and American Le Mans Series . Redon had already competed in sports car races in 1999. For JB Giesse Team Ferrari of Jean-Pierre Jabouille he raced in the Sports Racing World Cup . With team partner Mauro Baldi , he won the 500 km race at Spa-Francorchamps in a Ferrari 333SP . Redon made his first race appearance for Pescarolo at the Sebring 12-hour race . The emergency vehicle was a Courage C60 , team partners were Sébastien Bourdais and Jean-Christophe Boullion . On race Sunday, the courage failed due to engine failure. In Le Mans , the trio crossed the finish line in 13th place overall. There were two successes at the end of the year. First he won the 1000 km race at Estoril together with Boullion and Boris Derichebourg , followed by overall victory at the 400 km race at Magny-Cours .

After just a year of sports car racing, Redon returned to the monopostos in 2002. The 15 races in the Indy Racing League this year brought 225 points and 12th place in the championship. After the end of the season he ended his professional driving career and was team boss of a racing team in the Superleague Formula for several years .
