1997 Formula 3000 season

The 1997 Formula 3000 season was the 13th Formula 3000 season . It began on May 11, 1997 in Silverstone and ended on October 25, 1997 in Jerez . A total of ten races were run. The drivers 'championship title was won by Ricardo Zonta , whose Super Nova Racing team won the teams' championship title.

Starting field

All drivers used Lola T96 / 50 chassis with Zytek - Judd V8 engines and Avon tires .

1 Ricardo Zonta was disqualified from first place at Silverstone because of an irregular gearbox.

2 Juan Pablo Montoya was disqualified at Spa-Francorchamps for holding up the field with a damaged car.

3 Jamie Davies and Grégoire de Galzain were excluded from the Mugello race because they did not attend the drivers briefing. Tom Kristensen was excluded from the same race because of the attachment of an illegal adapter.

4 Rui Águas was disqualified during the race at Hockenheim for dangerous driving.

5 Cyrille Sauvage was disqualified from second place in Jerez because a team member entered the Parc Fermé after the race .

6 Kurt Mollekens was excluded from the Silverstone race because he did not take part in the drivers briefing.
