Career

Anthony Beltoise's career began in 1993 in the French Formula Renault championship , where he was overall seventh in the championship in 1994 on an Alpa FR93 and an Alpa FR94 (overall winner: Stéphane Sarrazin .) In 1996 he was second behind Soheil Ayari in the French Formula 3 Championship and in 1997 switched to the International Formula 3000 Championship , where he was unsuccessful.

At the end of the 1990s, he began with GT and sports car racing. So far he has celebrated nine overall and one class wins. The first major international success was the overall victory at the Spa-Francorchamps 24-hour race in 1999 . Together with Frédéric Bouvy and Emmanuel Collard , he won in a Peugeot 306 GTi . From 2003 he competed regularly in the French GT championship. There were also appearances in the Renault Sport Clio Trophy (2001 overall third behind Luca Rangoni and Jérôme Policand ) and in the Porsche Carrera Cup France (overall victory 2005 and 2006). He also competed in the American and European Le Mans Series .

He contested the Le Mans 24-hour race three times , where he was involved in the 2011 accident with Allan McNish . On the 13th lap, McNish overtook the leading Timo Bernhard , who also drove an Audi R18 , on the descent to the Dunlop arc , and collided with the Beltoise Ferrari driving in front of Bernhard. Touching it pushed the Audi off the track, got under-air and hit a pile of tires hard after driving through the gravel bed . There was even a brief threat of the wreck tipping over behind the guardrails, where photographers and marshals were doing their work. The wreck of the Audi, which was completely destroyed by the impact, remained on the roof in front of the cordon. McNish was able to leave the car unharmed with the help of the marshals who had rushed up, but four people suffered minor injuries from the flying parts. Beltoise stayed in the car and was able to continue the race after repairing the pits, but did not reach the checkered flag.
