Allan McNish (born December 29, 1969 in Dumfries , Scotland ) is a former British racing driver .

Formula sport

McNish began his career in karting. He got into Formula 3000 via Formula Ford and Formula 3 . Here he drove for the teams DAMS ( 1990 and 1991 ), 3001 International ( 1992 ), Vortex ( 1994 ) and Paul Stewart Racing , the predecessor of the Formula 1 team Stewart Grand Prix ( 1995 ). McNish achieved the best results in his first Formula 3000 season: he achieved two wins and finished the season in fourth place in the drivers' standings.

In parallel to his Formula 3000 outings, McNish also worked for a long time as a test driver for various Formula 1 teams. They included McLaren ( 1990 bis 1992 ), Benetton ( 1993 , 1994 and 1996 ), Lola ( 1995 ) and Toyota ( 2001 ). When Toyota Racing entered Formula 1 as a works team, it took part in the Formula 1 World Championship for a year in the 2002 season with the TF102 .

Endurance racing

However, McNish celebrated his greatest successes in other racing series. In 1998 he won the Le Mans 24-hour race and the Sebring 12-hour race in 2004 . In 2004 he won the 1000 km race at the Nürburgring with Pierre Kaffer . In 2005 he worked for Audi in the DTM .

In 2006 he won the Sebring 12 hour race for the second time and finished third at Le Mans. In 2008 he had another success: with Tom Kristensen and Rinaldo Capello , he won the Le Mans 24-hour race for the second time in an Audi R10 TDI . In 2009 McNish clinched his third victory in the Sebring 12-hour race with Kristensen and Capello in the Audi R15 TDI in its first race.

During the Le Mans 24-hour race in 2011, he was involved in a serious accident, but was uninjured. In 2012 he finished the race - again together with Kristensen and Capello - in second place in the overall ranking.

At the 24 Hours of Le Mans 2013 McNish celebrated his third victory in the endurance classic together with Tom Kristensen and the Frenchman Loïc Duval .

At the end of the 2013 motorsport season, McNish ended his sporting career. After the end of his career as a racing driver, McNish remained connected to motorsport at Audi.

FIA Formula E Championship

When Audi's involvement in the FIA World Endurance Championship ended, the factory entered the FIA Formula E championship . McNish became team boss of the Audi Sport ABT Schaeffler team from the 2017/18 season .
