Sebring 12 hour race 2007

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Andretti Green Racing's Acura ARX-01a - here at the 2007 Road America 4-hour race - was driven into second place overall by Marino Franchitti , Tony Kanaan and Bryan Herta

The 55th Sebring 12 Hours of Sebring , also The 55th Annual Mobil 1 Twelve Hours of Sebring, Sebring International Raceway , took place on March 17, 2007 at the Sebring International Raceway and was the first race of the 2007 ALMS season .

The race

After the success in the debut race of the Audi R10 TDI in the previous year , some changes had to be made to the vehicle for the 2007 season. According to the regulations, the tank content had to be reduced by 10%; This reduced the tank volume from 90 to 81 liters . This was done to take into account the 10% higher calorific value of diesel fuel compared to racing gasoline. Nevertheless, the R10 TDI was clearly the superior vehicle. Frank Biela , Emanuele Pirro and Marco Werner won by a clear margin.

As in the previous year, the second-placed vehicle in the overall ranking came from the LMP2 class. The Acura ARX-01a , which Michael Andretti reported for his team, was driven by Marino Franchitti , Tony Kanaan and Bryan Herta and was six laps behind the victorious Audi.

Corvette Racing won the GT1 class with the Corvette C6.R and the drivers Oliver Gavin , Olivier Beretta and Massimiliano Papis . The small GT class, the GT2, ended with the success of Jaime Melo , Mika Salo and Johnny Mowlem in a Ferrari F430 GT .
