Arie Luyendyk junior
Arie Luyendyk junior (born September 18, 1981 in 's-Hertogenbosch ) is a Dutch racing driver . His father is the racing driver Arie Luyendyk .
Career
Luyendyk began his motorsport career in 1992 in kart racing , in which he was active until 1997. He then moved into the single-seater racing and from 1998 to 2001, including in the US Formula Ford active. He also took part in the Benelux Formula Ford in Europe in 1998, 1999 and 2001, which is his only racing outings in Europe.
In 2002 Luyendyk moved to the IRL Infiniti Pro Series for Luyendyk Racing , his father's team. Although he didn't win a race, he was runner-up behind AJ Foyt IV with four second places . In 2003 he moved to Sinden Racing and finished the IRL Infiniti Pro Series with two podiums in seventh place in the drivers' standings. In 2004 he played his third season in the IRL Infiniti Pro Series. This season he initially competed for Sam Schmidt Motorsports and finally for AFS Racing . With a second place as the best result, he finished the season in third place.
In 2005, Luyendyk only took part in 9 out of 14 races in the IRL Infiniti Pro Series. For Sam Schmidt Motorsports, he finished eleventh. Luyendyk also tried to qualify for the Indianapolis 500 in 2005 , but failed. In 2006 Luyendyk finally made his debut in the IndyCar Series with his father's team at the Indianapolis 500 . However, he retired in 28th place and was 36th in the drivers' standings. He also started in 2006 for AFS Racing to four races in the IRL Indy Pro Series , the successor to the IRL Infiniti Pro Series, and finished the season in 15th place.
2007 Luyendyk took part for Guthrie Racing in two IRL Indy Pro Series races and was 35th in the championship. He also started in a race in the American Le Mans Series (ALMS). In 2008 the Pro Series was renamed again. For Andretti Green -AFS Racing, Luyendyk competed in the Indy Lights together with Raphael Matos . At the season finale in Joliet , Luyendyk won his first race in the Indy Lights. While Matos won the title, Luyendyk finished fourth in the championship.
After a year-long hiatus, Luyendyk returned to the Indy Lights in 2010 for four races. With a seventh place as the best result, he finished the season in 17th place overall.
Personal
Luyendyk's father Arie Luyendyk won the Indianapolis 500 twice. Luyendyk jr. Voted Most Popular Driver of the IRL Pro Series from 2003 to 2006 .
In 2012, Luyendyk took part in the US television show The Bachelorette , the counterpart to Bachelorette - The Dream Woman , as a candidate. In 2017 he was the bachelor of the 22nd season of the US television show The Bachelor .
