Colin Braun (born September 22, 1988 in Ovalo , Texas ) is an American racing driver who is active in the IMSA Weathertech SportsCar Championship . He was also active in the NASCAR Xfinity Series and the Camping World Truck Series .
Career
Beginnings
Braun started racing with Quarter Midgets at the age of six. At the age of eight he drove kart races in the USA, Japan, Italy and France. At 14 he switched to Formula Renault and won the US championship in 2003. In 2004 he switched to Formula 2000 and became champion again.
Start with sports cars
In 2005, at the age of 16, he took part in the Daytona 24 Hours in a Porsche 996 GT3 and in the same year was the youngest driver in the history of IMSA to ever take part in a racing series organized by this American racing organization.
He surpassed this record in 2007. At the age of 17, he won the Am Rolex Daytona Prototype Series at the 250-mile race in Daytona , nine months and seven days when he was behind the wheel of a Krohn Racing Crawford-Ford. This makes him the youngest driver in the history of US racing to win a race in a major racing series. He also set records in Europe. At the 24 Hours of Le Mans he achieved second place in the LMGT 2 class in a Ferrari F 430 GT . This makes him the youngest driver at Le Mans to have stood on the podium since the first race in 1923.
NASCAR

In 2007 the NASCAR team signed Roush Fenway Racing Braun. He completed his first stock car race in the same year when he started in the ARCA Racing Series at the Gateway International Raceway . As with all other stations in his career, he was able to impress immediately in the stock car sport. Good results in the first races in the ARCA Racing Series gave him the chance to participate in higher divisions of the stock car sport.
On October 20, 2007 he made his NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series debut at Martinsville Speedway , but had to retire early due to an accident. A week later, on October 27, 2007, Braun started for the first time in the NASCAR Nationwide Series , the second highest division of NASCAR. His debut race in this series, which took place in the Memphis Motorsports Park , he could only finish in 30th place. In November 2007 it was announced that Braun would take over the wheel of the Ford with starting number 6 in the Craftsman Truck Series in 2008 as a full-time driver.
In the course of the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series season 2008 , he was able to bring his Ford home four times in the top 10. His best finish was a third place finish in the O'Reilly Auto Parts 250 at Kansas Speedway . At the Nationwide Series race at the Autódromo Hermanos Rodríguez in Mexico City , Braun achieved the first pole position of his NASCAR career, but he finished the race three laps behind in 33rd place. At the Kroger 200 , he drove from pole position in second place.
Return to the sports car
After a one-off start in the American Le Mans Series (ALMS) in 2011 , Braun switched back to sports car racing in 2012 . He drove for CORE Autosport in the 2012 season and, with his teammate Jon Bennett, was able to take second place in the drivers' championship in the PC class. In addition, CORE Autosport won the team championship. The following year he also drove for the team in the ALMS, but switched from the ORECA FLM09 in the PC class to a Porsche 997 GT3 RSR in the GT class during the season . He also drove the first two races of the Rolex Sports Car Series for Team Doran Racing in a Daytona prototype.
In preparation for the following season, Braun was able to set a new speed record at the Daytona International Speedway in a Daytona prototype with a Ford EcoBoost engine . He did not drive the sports car course, but the entire oval that is used for the Daytona 500 . It drove an average speed of 358.837 km / h and undercut the old record (338.548 km / h) from 1987 by over 20 km / h.
However , Braun then contested the 2014 season in a PC car. Again he drove for the CORE Autosport team, which now competed in the new United SportsCar Championship . With class wins at the 24-hour race at Daytona , the 12-hour race at Sebring and the 6-hour race at Watkins Glen , the team was able to win three of the four major endurance races of the season. At the end of the year, Braun and teammate Jon Bennett won the driver and team titles in the series. Together with James Gue, the three drivers also won the driver and team title of the North American Endurance Cup , an extra classification for endurance races. In 2015 he was also able to win the championship in the PC class. He also started for CORE Autosport in 2016 , but was only able to achieve seventh place in his class.
