Change of classes

In the GTD class , the technical regulations specially developed by IMSA will be replaced by the FIA GT3 regulations for the 2016 season . Therefore, all teams have to modify or change their vehicles. If the teams have changed manufacturers, this is mentioned under Changes to teams .

Changes to teams

  • Chip Ganassi Racing switched from the P-Class to the GTLM-Class with the takeover of the Ford GT works program
  • With the takeover of the Lexus RC-F factory program, RSR Racing switched from the PC class to the GTD class and is now called F Performance
  • Team Falken Tire ended its involvement in the IMSA series after sponsor Falken Tire withdrew
  • BMW Team RLL switched from the BMW Z4 GTLM to the BMW M6 GTLM
  • Risi Competizione switched from the Ferrari 458 Italia to the Ferrari 488
  • Konrad Motorsport switched from the Porsche 911 GT America to the Lamborghini Huracán
  • Magnus Racing switched from the Porsche 911 GT America to the Audi R8 LMS
  • Paul Miller Racing switched from the Audi R8 LMS to the Lamborghini Huracán
  • Turner Motorsport expanded its team to two vehicles
  • Black Swan Racing returned to the IMSA series after a few years with a Porsche 911 GT3 R.
  • Stevenson Motorsport moved up from the Continental Tire Sportscar Challenge to the IMSA series and uses two Audi R8 LMSs
  • Change Racing moved up from the Lamborghini Super Trofeo to the IMSA series with a Lamborghini Huracán
  • O'Gara Motorsport rose from the Lamborghini Super Trofeo to the IMSA series with a Lamborghini Huracán

Changes in drivers

  • After working for Tequila Patron ESM in the FIA WEC , Ryan Dalziel moved to VisitFlorida.com Racing
  • Belgian Marc Goossens moved from Riley Technologies to VisitFlorida.com Racing
  • Richard Westbrook from VisitFlorida.com Racing, Dirk Müller from BMW and Ryan Briscoe from Corvette Racing have signed on for the new Ford GT works program
  • Long-time Chip Ganassi driver Scott Pruett switched to Action Express Racing for the races in Daytona and Sebring and then drove for F Performance
  • After Team Falken Tire withdrew, Bryan Sellers moved to Paul Miller Racing
  • The young Madison Snow moved from Wright Motorsport to Paul Miller Racing
  • Christina Nielsen moved from TRG-AMR to Scuderia Corsa in the GTD class
  • Long-term partners Townsend Bell and Bill Sweedler moved from Scuderia Corsa to O'Gara Motorsport
  • By expanding the program Turner Motorsport had Brett Curtis and BMW works driver Jens Klingman committed

Racing calendar

USCC

Not all races are advertised for all classes, as the number of registered participants exceeds the capacity of individual racetracks. In addition, the overlap with the 24 Hours of Le Mans was taken into account for the works teams in the GTLM class . This leads to twelve events with eleven races each for the PC, GTLM and GTD classes and ten races for the P class. Sprint races over 100 minutes are held on the street circuits in Long Beach and Detroit . All other races that are not intended as NAEC events (see below) will exceed the race length of 2:40 hours introduced in 2015.

Compared to last year, the PC (Long Beach), GTLM (Lime Rock Park) and GTD (Canadian Tire Motorsport Park) classes have been added to each event, so that one more race has to be completed.

NAEC

The Tequila Patron North American Endurance Cup (NAEC) will be held unchanged from 2015 .
