Lucas Waldemar Luhr (born July 22, 1979 in Koblenz ) is a German automobile racing driver and winner of the 2011 FIA GT1 World Championship .

Career

Karting

1989 Luhr got into karting . In 1990 he won the Kerpen Junior Club Championship with eight wins in ten races. In 1991 the successful title defense followed. In 1992 he was second in the North Rhine-Westphalian Kart Championship, the DMV Championship and the Stefan Bellof Cup . In the same year Luhr won the Winter Cup in Kerpen. In 1993 he won the gold cup in Dahlem , the international season finale in Schaafheim and the DMV championship. In addition, he came second in the Winter Cup in Kerpen and a third place in the national championships.

In 1994 Luhr became a works driver at CRG Italy, for which he won the European Championship and the South Garda Karting Trofeo . At the world championships and the Italian championships it was enough for a fourth place. The change in 1995 as a works driver to Jolly-Kart Italy was not crowned with great success, but was enough for participation in the European and World Championships and a fifth place in the World Cup in Charlotte (USA).

Formula series

In 1996, when he switched to Eifelland-Racing, he made the leap from karting to Formula Ford , in which Luhr was international runner-up, and to Formula Opel , in which he scored a victory at Hockenheim. As early as the next year he was promoted to Formula 3 when he joined Haddaway F3 Racing in the middle of the season in 1997. In 1998, when he switched to MKL F3 Racing, he won the opening race in Hockenheim and came eighth in the Formula 3 championship.

Le Mans Series

Lucas Luhr was a works driver at Porsche from 1999 to 2006 , where he achieved a large number of victories, including in important races such as the Le Mans 24-hour race . In June 2006 he won the 24-hour race at the Nürburgring together with Timo Bernhard , Mike Rockenfeller and Marcel Tiemann in a Porsche 996 GT3-MR . He repeated this victory in 2011, this time together with Marc Lieb , Timo Bernhard and Romain Dumas . In 2012 Luhr drove in the American Le Mans Series and the Rolex Sports Car Series . In 2013 he joined the ALMS for the Picket Racing team.

DTM

During the winter break for the 2007 season, he separated from Porsche and was in the year 2007 in the DTM with a used Audi at Team Rosberg at the start. Here, however, he was only able to score one point, which earned him 17th place in the overall standings.

GT series

In 2011 Luhr started in the FIA GT1 World Championship , which he won in a team with Michael Krumm .

Indycar

Through his ALMS connection to Honda, Luhr received the offer to take part in the GoPro Indy Grand Prix of Sonoma , a race in the IndyCar series , on August 25, 2013 . He finished 25th (and last) in qualifying and 22nd in the race.

ADAC GT Masters

In 2017/2018, the motorsport team IronForce Racing was created in a cooperation between JP Performance and Ring Police , which will start in the ADAC GT Masters racing series from 2018. Together with Jan-Erik Slooten , Luhr occupies the team's driver position. In the same year, Luhr and Slooten also completed the 24-hour race on the Nürburgring independently of the GT Masters for the Getspeed Performance racing team, together with their team drivers Marek Böckmann and Steve Jans . At the beginning of 2020, Lucas Luhr announced that he would not start with IronForce Racing in 2020 .

Private

Lucas Luhr is married and has two children. He lives in Ermatingen on Lake Constance . Private hobbies are wakeboarding and his Harley-Davidson .

He was arrested at a 2016 Imsa series graduation ceremony and fined $ 600. His crime was peeing drunk in a parking lot.
