Sebring 12-hour race 2016
The 64th Sebring 12 Hours Race , also the 64th Annual Mobil 1 Twelve Hours of Sebring Fueled by Fresh From Florida , took place on March 18, 2016 at the Sebring International Raceway and was the second round of the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship 2016 .
Before the race
The IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship racing season began early in 2016 with the Daytona 24-hour race . At the end of January, the teams met for the 24-hour race at Daytona International Speedway . The event ended with the overall victory of a racing team in the LMP2 class. Ed Brown , Johannes van Overbeek , Scott Sharp and Luís Felipe Derani won on a Ligier JS P2 reported by Extreme Speed Motorsports .
The race
The decision about overall victory in the 12-hour race was made late and in the final minutes of the race was largely shaped by the Brazilian extreme-speed motorsport driver Felipe Derani. After the last of 13 caution phases, which was triggered by an accident involving Andrew Meyrick in the DeltaWing DWC13 , Derani was in fourth place. Fifteen minutes before the end of the race, he was the only one of the leaders to have had fresh tires fitted at the last service, making him the fastest car. First he overtook Nicolas Lapierre in the Oreca 05 and five minutes before the checkered flag fell, first Filipe Albuquerque and then Dane Cameron in the Action Express Racing- Chevrolet Corvette DP . Olivier Pla, who had been in the lead for a long time, had to park his Ligier on the last lap due to a defect in the pit lane.
