Sebring 12 hour race 1964
The 13th Sebring 12 Hours of Sebring , also known as the 12 Hours of Sebring, Sebring, Florida , took place on March 21, 1964 at Sebring International Raceway and was the second round of the World Sports Car Championship of that year.
The race
The Sebring 12-hour race was the second round of the sports car world championship in 1964 . The first race of the season, the Daytona 2000km race , ended with a win for Ferrari . Pedro Rodriguez and Phil Hill won on the North American Racing Team reported Ferrari 250 GTO / 64 .
At the Daytona International Speedway was factory team Ferrari did not start. In Sebring, however, the Maranello team lived up to its role as favorites. The Scuderia celebrated a superior triple victory. Mike Parkes and Umberto Maglioli won ahead of their type colleagues Ludovico Scarfiotti and Nino Vaccarella (both teams contested the race in a Ferrari 275P ). Third place went to John Surtees - the from the pole position went to the race and set the fastest lap went - and Lorenzo Bandini in a Ferrari 330P . The closest thing to the Scuderia was the Shelby Cobra Daytona Coupe by Bob Holbert and Dave MacDonald . At the finish line, however, the Americans were three laps behind third place and finished fourth.
