Roberto Bussinello (born October 4, 1927 in Pistoia , † August 24, 1999 in Vicenza ) was an Italian racing driver .
Career
Bussinello was studying engineering when he started racing relatively late in 1958 at the age of 31. Bussinello worked as a technician at De Tomaso and drove the tests with their vehicles. But more and more often he also started in real races. He drove the de Tomaso F2 , the factory's first Formula 2 car, at its premiere in Modena in 1960 and at the Formula 1 race in Naples in 1961 , which was not part of the world championship and which he finished fifth. After finishing fourth overall at the Coppa Italia in 1961 , Bussinello was finally allowed to drive the De Tomaso F1-004 in a world championship run. At the 1961 Italian Grand Prix in Monza , he started the race from 24th place on the grid (33 vehicles were at the start). But he couldn't finish the race after an engine failure.
In 1963 Bussinello switched to Alfa Romeo . In 1964 he finished third at the Targa Florio with Nino Todaro on an Alfa Romeo Giulia and won the 6-hour race in Sandown Park.
In 1965 he drove again in the automobile world championship . Again he competed in Monza, this time for Scuderia Centro Sud , which entrusted him with a BRM P57 . Bussinello retired prematurely after problems with the oil pressure.
After returning to De Tomaso, he ended his active career and was Technical Director responsible for the Italian brand's sports car activities until the mid-1970s.
