Hillclimb Freiburg 1963
The hill climb Freiburg , and Freiburg-Schauinsland hill climb , was a mountain race , which was extended on August 11 1963rd At the same time, the race was the 14th round of the sports car world championship this year.
The race
In August 1925, a race took place for the first time on the 12-kilometer Schauinslandstraße from Horben to the Schauinsland -Passhöhe near Freiburg im Breisgau . From 1961 the start was made at Friedrichshof, directly after the fork in the road to Horben. The reason was the bus to Horben, for which the race had to be interrupted repeatedly until then. The relocation has made the route 811 meters shorter.
In 1963 , the race was given the status of a sports car world championship run. Before the event in Freiburg, two hill climbs with world championship status were held. The Consuma hill climb was won by Edoardo Lualdi in a Ferrari Dino 196SP . The winner on the Rossfeld was Edgar Barth in a Porsche 356 B Carrera Abarth GTL . Barth also won the race on Schauinslandstrasse. After driving the track twice, he had a lead of 3 seconds over Hans Herrmann in the Abarth 2000 .
