Giampiero Biscaldi
Giampiero Biscaldi (born September 2, 1937 in Milan - † November 6, 2014 ) was an Italian racing driver .
Career
Giampiero Biscaldi was known as a successful sports car driver in the 1960s, and his appearances in the monoposto were rare. The Italian began his career in the 1950s and drove his first international race in 1962 in Montlhéry ; he finished the 1000 km race in Paris in 16th place overall.
In 1963 he became a works driver for Abarth . After a sixth place in the Consuma hill climb and a fourth final place up on the Rossfeld , he made his debut at the 24-hour Le Mans race for Scuderia St. Ambroeus in the summer . In the race he was disqualified for unauthorized refilling of oil too early on the Alfa Romeo Giulietta Sprint Zagato. His best result for Abarth was third overall on an Abarth-Simca 1300 at the Coppa Inter-Europa .
In 1965 he received a two-year contract from Enzo Ferrari and competed for Scuderia in the World Sports Car Championship . The great successes failed to materialize in these two years; the best result he achieved together with Giancarlo Baghetti was 13th in the 1000 km race at the Nürburgring in 1965 .
At the end of the 1960s he had the most successful phase in the world championship. He spent his last years as an active driver, in 1968 and 1969, with the Alfa Romeo works team . He celebrated his greatest success in motorsport with a non-Italian team. In the Targa Florio in 1967 was in the works - Porsche 910 second behind teammate Paul Hawkins and Rolf Stommelen . Biscaldi's teammate was Leo Cella .
