1000 km race from Zeltweg in 1969

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Porsche 917 from 1969

The first 1000 km race in Zeltweg , also the 7th Austrian Grand Prix (1000 km Österreichring for sports cars and prototypes, Österreichring, Zeltweg) , took place on August 10, 1969 and was the 10th race of the sports car world championship of that year .

The race

The 1000 km race at the Österreichring in 1969 was remarkable in two ways. Firstly, with the official opening of the Österreichring , it marks the beginning of international motorsport activities on this permanent racetrack and, secondly, this race saw the first race victory for the Porsche 917 , which Joseph Siffert and Kurt Ahrens achieved .
